We've had a Marines military base there for a LONG time. It's nothing new. It's a fact that the Okinawan people have hated our presence there since the start. How much actual conflict has there been though? None. None whatsoever. Our presence there is strategic and necessary.

and not because of anything local. It's a launching point in case China or N. Korea want to start acting like a$$holes. Since WWII ended we've built a strong ally in Japan overall both economically and politically. It'd be insane to ruin that kind of thing arbitrarily.

Don’t listen him, please. He doesn’t represent most of Japanese voice. He has his very own agenda which conflict with lawfully elected national government agenda. Japanese are also having trouble with small number of laud far-left anti-Japan people, unfortunately. 😔

Very true. There's always a group of people trying to cause conflict when none is necessary. My friend who served said that in Okinawa itself there was a lot of hesitation from local people to interact with them, but the rest of the country is VERY nice to them. 😉👍

        簡単な答えはなくても平和、日本の基地、防衛のあり方をみんなで考えるのは必要かもしれません。

Literally why are we still building bases in Japan? I can kind of understand the existing ones, but new ones?

This would be to close one airbase in a very populated part of the island and move to a newly built one in a less populated area of the island. So a 1 for 1 swap.

In that case it sounds like an overall improvement, so long as the US doesn't go back on anything. Seems like Tamaki just wants to whine about US presence in general. Not a whole lot can be done about that. *shrug*

Maybe your ancestors should have thought about that before raping Korea and China and bombing the United States. Japan likes to play off American sympathy for the Japanese.

Okinawan people are not Japanese. They were as much the victims of Japanese aggression during WW2 as anyone else.
