You don't back out of (QUIT) leadership & expect to stay in control! You can't have your cake & eat it too lady! UNREAL! #Germany

The Chancellorship and the party leadership are not connected in any way. The Chancellor is responsible for the government. The Party leader responsible for party business (and not even Parliament Party business, just party). You don't need to be party leader and Chancellor.

She doesn't need to be Chancellor either. Some so called role model of leadership! #TimeForChange apparently.

Actually to a degree: She does. She was elected by parliament and agreed to do the job. Of course she could step down or have a constructive vote of non-confidence (like Kohl did), but the Role of Chancellor is more fixed than the role of party leader.

If this is not the person the people still want.... #Elections are your KEY for change.

Yes - but Elections are of for another 3 years. And actually, it is not OUR key for change. See, the chancellor is not elected BY the people directly. He/She is elected by the parliament. WE elect the parliament. So having a constructive vote on non-confidence is really the way.

All the best to your citizens. 😬 If she is not doing right by everyone, hopefully Impeachment is an option.

Well, see, the misconception outside of germany is: She is not doing the right politics. But: the issue we have here is that her goverment due to infighting is not doing ANY politics. Against all predictions the major winner in the last elections were the greens.

What's the point of being Chancellor without a job to do

The job of Chancellor and the job of party leader are vastly different jobs. One is doing the chancelloring, the other one is doing party business. The Chancellor is responsible for the Government, the party leader just for the party. Hope that clears things up.

Totalitarian- relating to a system of government that is centralized and dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state. Explain as to how giving up power and influence is the next step in a dictatorship..I;m genuinely curious.

How is stepping down from her party but remaining chancellor giving up power? I’m genuinely curious.

Usually when someone steps down from a leadership position, they are no longer in position to lead. It is called stepping down for a reason, unless in Germany, stepping down is rewarded with a move up the ladder and a grant of more authority, hard to believe that is the case.

Yeah, I did. Hints as to why my emphasis was on her stepping down from the head of her party, no mention of resignation for her chancellor position. So, by her not being the head of her party, wouldn't that grant less authority over her constituents she oversaw?

Not if she remains Chancellor. The way the German political system is set up, ruling party gets the Chancellorship.
