Given the currently pessimistic state of Australia, I suggest we choose '"We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan' as our new national motto/poem/anthem. Seems more fitting than refrains about being young, free or girt.

Because UBI does more than just help the desperate. It gives opportunity and encourages risk taking and innovation across society. Might not be right policy but it isn’t just an alternate welfare delivery system.

3 reasons we should rename Abbott’s Monash Group to the Chifley Group: 1. Chifley was an enduring advocate for coal in Australia; 2. The socialist ideas of the group would please old Ben; & 3. The group’s primary purpose, as near as I can tell, is to elect a Labor government.

This always bemuses me. The cost of printing & postage in the 19th century still determines how 21st century scholarship is published.

A curious thing about following people across the entire political spectrum is seeing people of every persuasion convinced that their side is badly losing and that the stakes are apocalyptic.

We now live in a world where an officially socialist country, , tells the US, an officially capitalist country, that it should welcome free trade. Outstanding.

You can track the decline of conservatism in Australia by the silence on the right about this act. If our ‘democracy of manners’ is to survive, the institution of parliament needs respecting and conserving.

For about the 100th time I'm reading a (liberalish) piece which says that Merkel shouldn't have admitted the refugees. But no one ever says what would have happened to these 800k people, where they would have ended up.

I'll add that a major frustration of mine is the pay-wall. If journals want policymakers and those with direct access to policymakers to be aware of and use their published research, they have to drop the pay-walls. Policy folks do not have access to university libraries!

In new , & argue that defending the liberal order today is a mistake. Three fundamental assumptions must be reexamined and a new system (and its limits) as well as US grand must be designed now
