It is absolutely wild that members of Congress are still allowed to buy and sell individual stock. It shouldn’t be legal. Please make sure to include shorting! And include cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. Politicians shouldn't be able to short some cryptocurrency and then ban it for personal gain.
This means 0 unless the ban extends to husbands/wives/partners.
Can you also pass legislation that would make it illegal for elected officials to lie? Or if nothing else, be able to bring civil lawsuits against elected officials who lie where they would be *personally* responsible.
They can trade stock with insider info but we can’t get an unemployment extension sounds about right lol
Two problems: 1. How far beyond the individual can the band extend? Family, Partners... 2. How do you deal with existing holdings? Many people rely on investments for retirement income. Much prefer you focus on campaign finance regs & funding.
One of the big issues is this buying stock is done in a way to avoid having to claim donations. Ie secret deals and before public knowledge. Kind of insider trader. In some cases, Congress is involved in decisions that they know will effect the stock.
