The United States did this to Puerto Ricans, too. In 1948, the US-appointed PR gov signed a Gag Law making it illegal to fly the Puerto Rican flag, punishable up to 10 years in prison. It was illegal until 1957. When the law was repealed, the gov changed the PR flag to US blue.

The reason I bring this up is because colonizing powers attacked PR identity in the process of codifying their 2nd-class citizenship. People joke about how Puerto Ricans are obsessed w/ flying the flag. That’s bc it was illegal & doing so represented resistance to colonialism.

Distinguished Congresswoman, it's easy to know what's the real blue. In 1895, the Revolutionary Committee in New York decided the🇵🇷 flag design was going to be the same of Cuba but with the colors inverted as the fight for independence from Spain was twinned.

Please take a closer look at this mess of an island. We are about to collapse and no federal oversight has left the powers that be do as they please. Our resident commissioner doesn't care and now they "elected" lobbyist to congress.

Dear Congresswoman, the Flag was raised on July 25, 1952, by former governor Muñoz, and named the Flag of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico…since then, is our official flag.
