The strength of the US party system is that you have large parties with a diversity of opinions within them. There are no all-powerful party bosses forcing legislators like you to vote a certain way. In any other country, you’d have been booted out of your caucus ages ago.

Yeah, I don’t know why people are up in arms about this. Many other countries have multiparty democracies, where several parties come together in a coalition to govern. In another country, I’d be in a Labor Party like Jacinda Ardern. Our primary field would cover 2-3 parties. twitter.com/daveweigel/sta…

Call me when there is a single boss of the Democratic Party with the power to single-handedly expel you from caucus and prevent you from running for re-election as a Democrat — all with the stroke of a pen. Because that’s how political parties work here in Canada.
