In our current primary field, some people treat healthcare as a right, and others don’t. Doesn’t make you enemies, it makes you different. Abroad, being in diff parties doesn’t mean you dislike each other. It means you acknowledge your differences and come together in coalition.

Having proportional representation and a coalition government means that we in NZ are more used to consensus politics as a way to move forward on anything, too. Trying to be obstructionists when you aren't getting everything your way tends to mean others will work around you.

It doesn't always give us perfect outcomes, but gradual reform and refinement of legislation becomes a whole lot easier when you're not just two teams pushing each other back and forth over the exact same yardage every year.
