Shock doesn’t begin to cover it. Today I left a hearing on homelessness & saw tons of people camped outside committee. I turned to my staff and asked if it was a demonstration. “No,” they said. “Lobbyists pay the homeless + others to hold their place so they can get in 1st.”pic.twitter.com/mXbgqkKp4P
Apparently this is a normal practice, and people don’t bat an eye. The first few people in line are guaranteed a seat in a given hearing. This was the hearing for marijuana banking laws. Lobbyists and those who can afford it pay people to hold their spot so they get in 1st.

Yep. As a former tech reporter I was blocked from getting into an FCC hearing because Comcast paid homeless people to take up seats.
I also just want to say that the folks you saw are not all “homeless”. And they are very hard working. And good people. They are like so many of us- desperate for some extra cash because basic things like food, housing, education, healthcare are out of reach.
You’re shocked the homeless are getting paid to do what they normally do?
it would be fantastic if the politicians allowed the homeless to stay in line (that is, don't let the lobbyists come back and swap in) and met with them instead of the lobbyists
