There’s a little wiggle room - everyone isn’t given the same exact amount, but it’s pretty close. If you’re from a district with high transportation costs, high rents (urban/suburban areas), or both, it can have the potential to pressure wages downward for similar operations.

Are you going to be transparent and publish the salaries you pay out and the salary you take home?
-
If I’m not mistaken, this information is publicly disclosed for all members.
-
It’s all public. Not hard to find.
-
(and the salary she makes isn't set by her, except insofar as it is set by Congress overall)
-
Shhhh this was going to be his gotcha moment
-
She could lessen her salary to help. Her salary is now more than 5 times the poverty line. Practice what you preach.
-
She can't lessen her salary. That would take a majority vote in the House. She has better battles to fight.
-
That’s his next move. “If you’re such a socialist, why not pass a law saying you make the same as all your staffers”

i've been alive for 34 years and following politics closely for like, 10 and this is the first time i've ever heard this kind of information. the transparency here is very much appreciated!
-

-
i look forward to the mountain of conservative thinkpieces in a few hours

They'll most likely still be discussing shoes and clothing.

Thank you for breaking this down. I've always wondered how this was covered.
-
Regardless of what anyone thinks about her politics I'm finding her going over the nuts and bolts of becoming a member of Congress oddly interesting
-
This is the kind of honest transparency and “real life” considerations the public wanted from Trump. Took a young woman from Brooklyn to break it down for everyone. The other one was never in touch with real life to even figure out where to start.

We were so proud to have our son serve an internship (and love the congressperson who he interned for) but realized at the time that such an amazing experience wasn't open to all. Our son lucked out have middle-class parents. Too may are locked out of internships.

This organization levels the playing field for Congressional internships:https://www.therenewalproject.com/this-millenial-social-entrepreneur-is-disrupting-the-college-to-congress-pipeline/ …

That is very cool. I've been playing with the idea of trying to do something similar, but having never organized anything and not having funding, am still in the "can I really do this?" phase of the idea.
-
If you do end up organizing something, let me know how it goes! I manage
@TheRenewalProj (the site from the link I tweeted), and we like to share stories from people like you who are trying to solve the problems that affect their communities. I'm at mmyers@atlantic57.com. -
Will do for sure.
