This week I went to dive spot in DC for some late night food. I chatted up the staff. SEVERAL bartenders, managers, & servers *currently worked in Senate + House offices.* This is a disgrace. Congress of ALL places should raise MRAs so we can pay staff an actual DC living wage.

Hmmm, as a socialist, shouldn't you take a pay cut and spread your salary to your staff so all of you make the same amount? I mean, why should your assistant have to suffer on less than you make?

yes lets blame the Republicans even though things stayed the same no matter what party was the majority or President.

Amen it's we that haven't Changed! The Democratic party has went off the rails! Geez she's to dumb to be in the Congress! I don't get it how anyone can think with her logic!

That is the great thing about your new job-you are free to staff leanly and pay them above market if you wish, and see how it all works out. And BTW- $175K a year is well above “livable.” More like “live-it-up-able.” Feel free to donate your unused salary back to the Treasury.

Then they would FIX Obamacare and be Outraged!
@lhitchen007

Actually, Congresspeople and Senators who are not covered by a group policy of a spouse do have to purchase private coverage under the ACA. Doesn’t seem to morivate them to fix it.https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2017/04/12/523335954/what-happens-to-a-congressmans-health-insurance-if-obamacare-goes-down …

Is everything always to the benefit of Politicians their families and friends Never regular Americans?
@pipermcq
-
Sadly, that sometimes appears to be the case. Washington is wired to insulate them from the consequences of their decisions.
-
What a Tragedy for us all!
@pipermcq Selfishness Lies Corruption rules in DC Doesn’t it?
-
Well, it does if we let it! But the optimistic part of me says that we see all of that because it is the most visible and annoying, but that the majority of politicians there are at least trying to do decent work.

So I guess the people who clean the bathrooms at Google should get paid as much as the CEO's do too? That definitely makes sense.
-
Some companies have had policies where the highest paid person in the company can make more more than 𝘯 times the lowest wage. Ben and Jerry’s did 8x when it was an independent company. You want to raise executive pay, you have to increase the bottom end of wages to do it.
-
It’s a good policy. Instead, most successful companies contract out their janitorial services to absent themselves from the responsibility for the poverty wages and weak benefits given to some of the hardest working people in their offices.
-
The problem though is, that when you sign your contract with a company willing to hire you, you agree to be paid a certain amount. It is not a company's duty to pay you something you feel you can live on. It is your duty to increase your worth so a company pays you more.

Alexandria Occasional Cortex, are you suggesting that Congress fire some staffers in order to give the remaining staffers wage increases? Got it. So its better for some to have ZERO pay so others can get more! How very socialist of you!
