Dogs don't smile, this one look stressed

they can definitely smile, but in different ways. even if this dog is just having human characteristics applied to it, you can tell she’s happy because her tail is wagging and pinned back ears can also show happiness.

My pitbull Layla passed away almost a year ago or so at this point and I still miss her dearly. Last night I actually saw her in my dream and we walked with each other for a bit. First thing after I wake up and see on Twitter is this post. This is kinda bizarre

Yeah, this isn’t a happy dog. They don’t “smile” like humans do, this one actually looks really stressed and uncomfortable. It won’t know it’s getting adopted, it doesn’t understand English. Applying human expressions to dogs is how we end up getting bitten. Stop humanising dogs.

In this case I would say it’s a submissive smile/behavior. A lot of people automatically just go to “oh it’s happy!” When it’s usually the opposite. I think the dog is a bit scared, it’s trying to appease whoever is holding the camera.
