    I always think of std::vector::size() as cheap. As in, it just reads the size member, or something. Of course, I'm wrong. size() is always all that cheap. In principle, it involves a division, although the compiler will likely strength reduce it a constant multiply, etc.

    Epic hard drive fact that presumably everyone else knew: one of the main reasons why platter speeds (and random seek latencies) haven't improved much relates to aeroelastic flutter in the head. Helium is now used because it remains laminar at 8x higher platter speeds.

    We released patch 1.2 of today, and it includes a fix for the dreaded "the game thinks my companions are dead" bug, which I believe I spent more time investigating than I have for any other individual bug in my career (1/18)

    I love code guidelines, here's some: I'm a big fan of the old bitsquid blog, and excited for this new company. This style guide is .. pretty extreme. I imagine the workplace is like a clean room and any disorganised cables are frowned upon.
