7/ Greed and profit: “I keep thinking back to the 2021 All Hands where they announced our massive warehouse expansions motivated by 2020 earnings, and how clearly a bad idea it was and went totally against any sustainability goals.” Now workers are paying the price.

6/ Now they have to schedule a time to retrieve their belongings, with a security escort. Again, no conversation, no gratitude for their work. Used and discarded while the company continues to make huge profits.

5/ Another story: a worker told us that they found out that they were getting laid off by not having access to their Slack. Their building access was instantly revoked, all without having had a conversation with anyone.

4/ After working long grueling hours during the holiday surge, workers feel they are being discarded, many without even a conversation. “It’s giving me ‘now that you’re not an asset, you’re trash to be thrown out’,” a worker laid off today said.

3/ It's clear we as employees are just seen as assets and not as real people with families and bills to pay. We workers are paying the price for strategic missteps and decisions from Amazon's top leadership.

2/ Amazon sales were $127 billion and operating income was $2.5 billion in Q3. Let’s not pretend that layoffs are inevitable, let alone the way that people were “cut,” without advance notice nor transparency into why they were selected.

This is an important victory for the Mt Baker community, who want this land used for affordable housing, small businesses and parks - things that will build and support the BIPOC community instead of polluting it.

to get Amazon to pull the permit for a planned warehouse in the Mt Baker neighborhood. Due to this community pressure, Amazon declared they had no plans to expand in the Rainier Valley!

The message came on the eve of a planned protest by people whose neighborhood vision does not include Amazon warehouses, despite the jobs they would provide.

It also means incorporating environmental justice into every decision the company makes, including warehouse construction. 👇

An Amazon warehouse in the heart of South Seattle would drastically alter any hope we have in our community for walkable and affordable living for BIPOC families, elders and youth — who envision a nature based environment ready to tackle the impacts of climate change. This project would alter everything from traffic in the area to how we envision and develop North Rainier in the future.

Come through this Saturday at Noon on MLK & Rainier to support the cause!

I’ll be one of the speakers along with some amazing community leaders who will give voice to the vision of a walkable and healthy Mt. Baker. Special shout out to @trae_baeee of @blackactioncoalition for organizing the people, setting this up and inviting me out. I live at the Mt. Baker Lightrail Station in the ArtSpace Lofts and we’ve been dealing with a lot in our neighborhood, so this hits particularly home to me.
