As the number of returning WWII vets swelled into the millions in 1944, it was evident that nationally organized assistance would be needed. With that in mind, eighteen leaders met in Kansas City, MO, and founded The American Veterans (AMVETS) of World War II on Dec. 10, 1944.

On this day 81 years ago, America lost 2,008 sailors, 109 Marines, 218 soldiers, 238 Airmen and 68 civilians without warning, and another 1,000 people were wounded. AMVETS solemnly honors the men and women who died in the devastating attack on #PearlHarbor.

Volunteers with AMVETS Post 274 (Carlisle, PA) have prepared and distributed about 125 dinners and 45 care packages to residents at Thornwald Home, Chapel Pointe, Green Ridge Village and the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
