no but the rx7 pretty much needs to run 1:50 premix like it's a fucking dirt bike, and then every other tank or so run a bit of marvel mystery oil through it, which is pretty much transmission fluid and not much else

Something magical about high-strung rotaries...dirty, loud, delicate, intense, no torque, lots of RPM, reckless fluid consumption...would love to have one someday.

a fun project would be hub motors for some regen and to provide copious launching torque. always wanted to do that

Would be fun...only downside would be the massive weight penalty right where you don’t want it the most...not sure what the weight of one powerful enough to be useful is down to these days.

IIRC Porsche's was about 40kg, and in the passenger footwell down low. Its *energy* density wasn't high, but its *power* density is great. Roughly 1/10 the energy storage of same mass in Li batteries, but way faster discharge.

I do remember this, defintely a cool concept, wish it had been explored more. I was thinking more in terms of hub motors = rotational unsprung mass, which is the worst kind...but the flywheel energy storage is definitely a huge help with the weight overall

Oh gotcha. Yeah no, theirs was rapid store/discharge, central. I forget where the motor(s) were.

a bunch do it in F1, remember VW playing with it literally like the year after i started getting into exploring unusual use cases

I initially read this as "exploding" and wasn't entirely wrong
