Many socialists think that wealth & value can’t be created, only redistributed. If you have more, it’s because someone out there has less. You haven’t created something that’s added value, you’ve just unfairly taken value from other people.

Yes, they do. I literally posted a graph that showed the overall share of wealth in China diverging, and people conflated that with the number of poor people increasing. People reasoned that if people had more, it’s because they must have taken it from poor.

The idea that wealth can be added to an economy, and that everyone has more, just some people see a bigger increase than others is flat or rejected.

Even though the pie gets bigger redistribution can still be justified if, and only if, the net gain from it is greater than the net disincentive it creates. Chicago school vs Keynesian disagree on this one. A more important factor is who is incentivized to reproduce.
