Yeah, pretty obscene. I remember thinking awhile back when the Pinker book on violence came out that his premise was absurd—in that we're either equally violent (or more), just that it's been hidden into more implicit forms (as opposed to explicit wars). Turns out that's true.

I like to remember Detroit is a warzone if we measure solely by casualties per unit time. Chicago isn't exactly peaceful either. Etc. etc. And demobrats want to make every city Detroit. Because they vote left.

Entirety of Detroit is a no-go zone for police, basically. It's a miracle we get any stats at all, to be honest.

Hierarchies have a natural slope to them, and a leader can command only so many people. At global government scale, the leader runs out of 'command points' some layers before the hierarchy reaches the citizens.

1 I came to this exact conclusion about government size, but used different terminology. My explanation was that subordinates withhold information from superiors, and so the higher you go the less you know.
