JK Rowling has a team of lawyers, and is not afraid to use them. I suspect apologies are coming from publications because she is threatening libel. She has the resources to break them, and they know it.

A few of the usual suspects have recently learned that their habitual & hyperbolic denigration of female persons on here can be actionable. The alacrity with which they fold & apologise when offered their day in court is noteworthy
