People today are comically bad at receiving art. There can't be any symbolism or satire, everything must be literal and every act is an endorsement of what's being acted. They want an artist to hold their hand and explain in literal terms what's right and wrong. Childish and sad.

Many people understand that first reactions reflect internal biases and prejudices. Many feel that feelings have some primacy (right to be offended, results over intentions). Very few seem to connect the dots that this inevitably leads to an implied right to bigoted responses.

The phenomenon of being punished (arrested, assaulted, murdered) for "Existing while black" is precisely because people "fear for their life" when they see something they percieve as "antisocial behaviour", even if that behaviour is literally a person existing.
