The British Library and now Oxfam have both now deleted Pride tweets after pile-ons by transphobes. “Gender critical” activism is a deeply conservative movement that seeks to limit speech! Organisations need to take strong positions against this!

Sure, the reason that people dont listen to you, a corporate lawyer who works for the cigarette industry (basicaly the only cause of lung cancer other than asbestosis), is because of classism and sexism. No other reasons I could think of at all.

as a relatively middle class lawyer in manhattan who's represented multiple large cigarette companies over the past decade you would think people would listen to me on this lol.. don't want to say it's all sexism but c'mon

People today are comically bad at receiving art. There can't be any symbolism or satire, everything must be literal and every act is an endorsement of what's being acted. They want an artist to hold their hand and explain in literal terms what's right and wrong. Childish and sad.

At a performance in Germany, Roger Waters dressed up as an SS soldier and pretended to fire a rifle.
How any person with a conscience can pay money to see this vile human is beyond me.

Roger Waters was performing a song from their 1979 concept album "The Wall." The song tells the story of a musician in crisis who ends up performing on hallucinogenic drugs and hallucinates that he's actually a Neo-Nazi dictator.
He is not advocating or endorsing Nazis

NEW: last week a group of US hardline conservatives brought the National Conservatism conference to London. It fell completely flat. Why?
Because Britain and America are completely different societies.
Key chart: UK Cons are *way* more liberal than US Reps on ~every measure.

It’s so funny in Hot Fuzz how Angel mistakenly thinks he’s solved the crime because he’s identified the killers’ economic anxiety, only later discovering the truth that they’re simply fascists who think ‘niceness’ must be enforced with murder. That film really understood Britain.

Seems perfectly reasonable to most people that if your wanter company is unable to operate without dumping sewage into public waterways, it shouldn't really be allowed to turn a profit? That's a very straightforward incentive to me

People across the political spectrum seem pathologically incapable of *really* admitting that unsympathetic people deserve rights. The rush to pretend that Neely was primarily known for being an MJ impersonator is a tacit refusal to admit that *severely unwell* people need help

"You would do the same in this situation" is weaponising your fragility to justify murdering someone because they make you feel uncomfortable. This is not different in kind to the woman who called the cops on a black guy for being in the same park as her and speaking to her.

Many people understand that first reactions reflect internal biases and prejudices. Many feel that feelings have some primacy (right to be offended, results over intentions). Very few seem to connect the dots that this inevitably leads to an implied right to bigoted responses.

The phenomenon of being punished (arrested, assaulted, murdered) for "Existing while black" is precisely because people "fear for their life" when they see something they percieve as "antisocial behaviour", even if that behaviour is literally a person existing.
Quote Tweet
The man did not deserve to die, but stop acting like you wouldn't fear for your life if you saw that type of antisocial behaviour. You would not behave in some optimal way if you were there.

I think it's a bad take from Abbott no doubt, but we ignore actual consequential racism. That she should have the whip withdrawn for a bad take on the history of racism while shipping refugees off to prison camps in Rwanda is a normal part of ours politics would be too farcical.

Any rich person could, at any moment, spend some pocket change and do this. Every day they make the choice not to.

Let’s say a bathroom ban happens, and trans women have to use the men’s and trans men have to use the women’s. Isn’t it entirely possible that cis men will pretend to be trans men to access women’s spaces? Is that not *more* likely than them pretending to be women?
