Gave my first big boy lecture today 👨🏻‍🏫 I’m a TA for a grad class called Principles of Infectious Diseases . My prof gave me the opportunity to give a whole 80min lecture and I think it went fairly well!

his tweets full of misinformation. He knows exactly what he is doing. It’s the OPPOSITE of good public health communication and incredibly dangerous. He does not deserve or need this platform. Report him and keep the public well informed without twisting facts.

With every outbreak, there are always the “let’s freak out about our misunderstanding of virus evolution” narratives. I hope that nobody is actually listening to this guy.

This is a pretty interesting tidbit from the most recent report on . Not surprising - kinda sad, but definitely necessary. The R0 of misinformation is massively higher than the R0 of the virus.

I’m taking a class on infectious disease outbreaks and it’s lead by the CT state epidemiologist, Dr. Matt Cartter. This man is such a wealth of resources. Almost every day he’s sending us more info on nCoV2019; it’s amazing

One reason people feel is due to fantasy hours. You tell yourself you're working but really not doing much. Real hours are a way to reduce guilt. Real = no distractions, just doing the job. 2 Real hours = 10 Fantasy hours. And less guilt.

Today is/was the first ! And while it was kind of eclipsed by , just a reminder that NTDs (neglected tropical diseases) affect over 1.5 billion people worldwide but receive little $ and attention bc they primarily affect people who are vulnerable and impoverished

I cannot express how important it is to believe in your students, your children, your siblings, etc. Someone believed in me when I didn’t and it made all the difference

A lot of talk about sequencing and tracking the epidemic. If you're interested in learning how this all works, we recently wrote a large(ish) review on genomic epidemiology. Link: Get it here:

So an emergency declaration from them could influence emergency declarations in various countries. Emergency declarations are a great way to get a lot of money quickly for a response. And i think a lot of us know that the public health sector isn’t exactly well funded

I think what’s important to remember about this WHO emergency declaration is that, while it might seem dramatic and unnecessary, the WHO holds A LOT of soft power. They are hugely influential with health policies around the world.
