“And then there was failure: none gtr than staggering, staining failure of to depict Hitler's methodical extermination of Jews of Europe as a horror beyond all other horrors in WW2.” - Max Frankel (11/14/2001) NYTimes failed Europe’s Jews. Now is it Jewish state’s turn?

The more I think about the “cartoon,” the more appalled I am. While is rising...synagogues are attacked & Jews killed...democratic is demonized...& Jewish institutions are forced to bolster security... The “paper of record” pours oil on the fire.

We are shocked and saddened beyond words by reports of a shooting at a synagogue in Poway, California. We pray for the recovery of those injured as we anxiously await further news.

Naked antisemitism such as in this image is not “an error of judgment.” We have to wonder if the editors would’ve published a similar cartoon depicting any other country or people.

The “cartoon” is beyond shocking. Antisemitic in the extreme. No, “apology” isn’t adequate. Rather, owes readers an explanation of how this happened — after all, decision to print it involved more than one person — & what it says about the paper’s view of Israel & Jews.

Not even a community student paper ought to get away with such a Stürmer-sized "error of judgment"-particularly not if it has a history of anti-Israeli coverage. When Palestinian terror is routinely whitewashed and Jesus turned into a Palestinian, the problem is structural.

Apology not accepted. How many editors looked at a cartoon that would not have looked out of place on a white supremacist website and thought it met the paper’s editorial standards? What does this say about your processes or your decision makers? How are you fixing it?

History is full of journalists outwitted by demagogues. Iran’s regime has way too much blood on its hands to get any “pass” from . Whether it’s religious minorities, gays, dissidents, Syrians, Americans, Argentines, Israelis...list of Iran’s targets is very long.

Me: Can you explain why divides into “political” & “military” wings? A European Amb. in Brussels: I can’t. Me: Defies logic. Hezbollah is one entity, not two. Plus, if EU wants to fight , why allow “political” wing to operate? Amb: Ask someone else.

Despite a 2008 campaign promise to “recognize the ,” Pres. Obama didn’t in 8 yrs in office. Nor did his predecessors, nor his successor, till now at least. The reason? Fear of Turkish reaction. How painfully sad the US could be intimidated to deny history.
