Fully protect yourself! Use PrEP and condoms so you and your partner stay safe. PrEP will protect you from HIV and condoms will protect you from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Graphic by

is a highly effective way of preventing HIV infection but too few people have access to it. Activists and community-led organizations around the world are working tirelessly to change that. This , RT to show them your support! ❤️

  16. It is important to know that PrEP is not recommended for everyone, but it can help people who are at high risk of getting HIV infection. Again, the best ways to protect yourself are to use condoms any time you have sex, and avoid sharing needles.

  17. Being under PrEP, there is a small risk of getting HIV if you are highly exposed, that is why it is always advisable to use condoms even if you are taking the medicine. If you do not take PrEP daily, there may not be enough medicine in your bloodstream to block the virus.

  18. PrEP medicine should be taken as long as you continue to be at risk. You will need to see your health provider to assess any new symptom, or side effects of medicine, get other blood tests including HIV test to make sure you do not have HIV infection.

  21. PrEP does not work the same way as a vaccine. “A vaccine teaches your body to fight off infection for several years. For PrEP, you take a pill daily, the presence of the medicine in your bloodstream can often stop HIV from taking hold and spreading in your body" CDC.
