    The provision of education on Norfolk Island is at crisis point and the Assistant Minister couldn’t even find 15 minutes to meet despite the request for a meeting over 3 weeks ago. It betrays the Morrison Government level of concern regarding this crisis.

    Members at Great Lakes College Forster Campus walked off the job over staffing shortages at their school and other public schools across the state. said teachers are fed up with having to cover classes where no casual teachers are available.

    I've yet to meet a parent who would prefer their child to be taught by an unqualified teacher. I doubt whether politicians, senior bureaucrats and productivity commissioners would volunteer their own children to be taught by unqualified ‘teachers’. .”

    This is also supported by the OECD (2012, 2014) “a higher concentration of lesser qualified or novice teachers in schools serving disadvantaged students can have a negative impact on student performance, further diminishing their chances of success.”
