    The provision of education on Norfolk Island is at crisis point and the Assistant Minister couldn’t even find 15 minutes to meet despite the request for a meeting over 3 weeks ago. It betrays the Morrison Government level of concern regarding this crisis.

    Students, staff and the Norfolk Island community remain in a state of uncertainty as the Morrison Government fails to announce an education provider for Norfolk Island Central School for 2022 and beyond.

    Disgraceful! The government is directly responsible for the skills shortage. Thread👇🏻

    Tools down for Coffs Harbour TAFE bricklaying teachers. Local businesses have to send their apprentices to Newcastle to learn their trade since Minister shut down this section. Lost opportunities during a building boom on the North Coast.

    I've yet to meet a parent who would prefer their child to be taught by an unqualified teacher. I doubt whether politicians, senior bureaucrats and productivity commissioners would volunteer their own children to be taught by unqualified ‘teachers’. .”

    This is also supported by the OECD (2012, 2014) “a higher concentration of lesser qualified or novice teachers in schools serving disadvantaged students can have a negative impact on student performance, further diminishing their chances of success.”
