This is a pretty brutal and detailed takedown of Tucker Carlson’s pro-populism monologue.https://twitter.com/benshapiro/status/1081330899017334785 …

This system is the greatest accomplishment in human history. It’s a real miracle. And these schmucks want to throw it all away because they are ignorant and ungrateful. Anyways, JG wrote a spot on book about this garbage:https://www.amazon.com/Suicide-West-Tribalism-Nationalism-Destroying-ebook/dp/B06WV9JQBT …

We shouldn't be too eager to dismiss the real problems of those he's claiming to represent. But the suggestion that there's some vast cabal deliberately hurting them and that there's some facile solution to these problems is beyond the pale.
-
Agree, that is beyond the pale. That’s why Carlson never suggested such a thing. He’s simply pointing the finger at failed politics and an indifferent ruling class, and the devastating effects they have had on certain communities. That’s not a conspiracy or cabal, it’s reality.
-
Right. It's not a conspiracy. It's worse than that, it's a 'consensus'. As in "all my inside-the-beltway friends think this way, so it must be right". And they never listen to perspectives outside the bubble. Self-perpetuating indifference.
-
Yep. Groupthink is deadly.

Yes, we live in the greatest country in the history of the world. And yet the suicide rate and opiod drug deaths indicate malaise in our society, while the breakdown of the family is a serious problem if we want the nation to continue for the next generation.

Ben makes some wrong assumptions imo. Tucker isn’t saying the gov should have programs to fix things, mostly he’s saying the things they have done are a problem, and neglected like enforce laws like immigration laws because it helps elites and hurts low and middle class
-
The talking-past-eachother strawman arguments could end if we simply agreed on "Here's the things in US society that could and should be better." Surely Shapiro agrees that breakdown of the family and 60,000 drug deaths/yr are serious cultural problems.
-
You can tell by the voices speaking up that Tucker hit a nerve. He didn’t propose government solutions like they suggest, rather showing the problems and that what’s currently happening is failing to meet the needs of the people the gov is supposed to serve, and needs changing

You speak in mottoes & clichés - "greatest country" "unimaginable opportunities." Speak to the gritty realities that Tucker illustrated, i.e. middle-class men can't afford to get married, buy a home, etc. because the "free market" sends their jobs to India & China w/ impunity.

Benji already faced Tucker in a debate and lost. Only a complete idiot would think that we live in some sort of 100% free market meritocracy. Affirmative action, trade policy, open borders all are designed to benefit certain segments of society while harming others.

Right, true conservatives support open borders and free trade with communist countries like China. Don't forget the endless wars and a all-powerful surveillance state!pic.twitter.com/Y4FB4ZyeMh
