330M Americans. 177M fully vaccinated. About 60M under 15 so low-risk from Covid. That leaves about 100M. Still a lot of people (another 30M have 1 dose), but we have no idea how many of the rest have protection via prior infection. 20M? 30M? Makes a big difference.

CDC:Natural Immunity’s effectiveness is “similar to vaccine efficacy”: “individuals who are seropositive from prior SARS-CoV-2 infection, COVID-19 incidence is reduced by 80% to 95%, similar to vaccine efficacy estimates”https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/02/health/us-coronavirus-thursday/index.html …

And I suspect a strong political aspect. He badly needs a win and knows the vast majority of adults are vaxxed. Pick a fight with the unvaxxed while playing to the authoritarian impulses of his base and knowing the unvaxxed are over-represented in his foes? No brainer.

“A bunch”? Seems the best anyone can do is add multipliers to recorded cases.

The lack of various levels of publicity-available data for which we can do various cuts has long been a sore spot of mine. If we have it and aren’t making it widely available it is bad. If we aren’t collecting it at all, that is much much worse.

Exactly. There have been a number of seropositivity studies in the UK and Israel, for example, and very few in the US. On a similar note, the CDC continues to insist that those who have had covid still must get vaccinated, despite zero data supporting this.

Many of the people that got COVID were asymptomatic so might not know themselves.

30,000 americans died in August. We are on track for 40,000 dead in September. How is that for “at risk” numbers for whom the risk became real.
