    A court has found that Mpls landlord Steven Meldahl knowingly & in bad faith violated the rights of 267 families he rented to. The court found “credible and compelling” former tenants who testified about housing conditions of “Biblical plague proportions.”

    Reminder about the Meldahl win. It was our first case of using consumer-protection law to protect tenants from fraud and abuse. I set up a new unit in my office to do this kind of work. Stay tuned for more.

    I took this case bc tenants are consumers of housing and protecting consumers of all goods & svcs in every part of MN from fraud & abuse is my job. Today’s settlement is part of a body of work that got a very important court win against Mpls landlord Steven Meldahl last November.

    A landlord in the Willmar/Marshall area charged 877 households a fee they weren’t entitled to charge under MN law, then charged them late fees if they didn’t pay. We warned the landlord not to do it. When they did it anyway, we got tenants’ money back.

    I am deeply sad & angry at the school shooting death of a student in Richfield. My heart goes out to the student’s family, teachers & friends. My office & I will support law enforcement & prosecutors every way we can in solving this crime & holding accountable those responsible.

    Minnesota students and parents can’t afford to be cheated out of money simply because Navient knew how to game the system. We held them accountable and will continue to protect Minnesotans against businesses that put their bottom line ahead of consumers.

    Proud to join every AG in the US asking the FCC to act to stop foreign-based illegal scam robocalls. We all get them & we all hate them. They're hard to stop on a state-by-state basis but the FCC has tools & we're committed to helping the FCC stop them.

    We must act now to ensure that all Americans are free to vote & their will is respected no matter the result. Instead in many states we are seeing more legislative attacks on democracy & the right to vote while essential voting-rights legislation in Congress is still stalled.

    1 yr ago today, our Capitol & democracy were under the greatest threat since the Civil War. The House & the justice system are holding ppl accountable for the attack that killed 2 police officers and injured hundreds. It was a shameful day in US history. We must never forget.
