It's a guess, but I suspect the linguistic turn in philosophy, to say nothing of its over-identification with grammar, discourse, reading, etc., is at least in part a result of the media ecology of the academic environment. (Also likely why nonverbal practice is underemphasized.)

Sometimes I play out interviews in my head. Warhol like. Burroughs loved the idea of doing routines. Nowadays maybe we run programs. Or game plays. On a tangent does anyone drift off into their own thought while reading, pages later realising you have been in some hybrid text?

I drift off sometimes while reading, sure. Sometimes a good idea comes through and sometimes I just have to start the section over again.
