I was a quiet child, too. Shy, as well. Always felt different to others, not knowing why. ADHD was never suspected.

I was the same, shy, quiet and fairly good student. ADHD was never suspected until I suspected my child has and she was diagnosed. Learning how to help her I realize I had many symptoms. I was diagnosed recently with innatentive ADHD.

THIS! are you me? Lol How different childhood would have been had I been diagnosed. But, an academic, non disruptive slightly socially awkward girl in the 80s/90s? Not a chance of a diagnosis.

Same but in the 00s/10s also flies under the radar.
