It should be easy to know when you’ve found the official YouTube channel of a creator, artist, brand, or public figure. So in late October, we’re updating what it means for channels to be “Verified” w/ new eligibility criteria & a new look. Details → https://yt.be/help/3QfB pic.twitter.com/JXOvMbkbns

So from what I can read, you decided to make this change because people are stupid and think being verified means they only make videos that are endorsed by someone/something? That seems strangely convoluted

Not exactly–the old way didn’t “verify” much except that a channel had 100k subs. This change makes verification more helpful, by looking at authenticity (you are who you say you are), and some additional criteria outlined here: https://yt.be/help/3QfB

There's many reasons highlighted in that post for why we're making the change!! That one specifically refers to the checkmark/design update, there's other "why" language about the eligibility piece. Definitely give the full thing a read & let us know if it helps clarify!

You know if you guys just admitted you didn't care about small channels it would make everyone happy? We already know you don't, you don't gotta mask it with corporate lingo and lies.
