Kudos to Gov. . Less than two weeks in office, and he's taking on a crisis in the state's prisons that's been more than a decade in the making. Reeves is Bold, Decisive, and Conservative.

The author of this piece writes: "Leon County Sheriff Raymond Hamlin believes legislators and judges are looking at criminals through rose-tinted glasses." Folks, Hamlin said that in 1975. And he is not the Leon County Sheriff, because he died in 2009.

Mandatory minimums act as “sledgehammers” that give the government enormous power to threaten defendants. Of course it is no surprise bureaucrats who prosecute defendants enjoy that power, and they want to protect it. + +

My faith calls on me to seek mercy over sacrifice. Medical release for those with only a few months to live and elderly inmates who are unlikely to commit new crimes is an act of grace the State should have the authority to grant.

Per inbox, the New Jersey governor has signed a bill into law requiring a criminal conviction for asset forfeiture in cases involving under $1,000 in cash or $10K in property. I wrote about the bill here:

Utah DA David Leavitt is a conservative, tough prosecutor. He is also part of the Prosecutors Advisory Council. And he wants to reform the criminal justice system.

“I’m not advocating this bill because I think it’s a way to save money. I’m advocating for this bill because I think it’s the right thing to do.” Sen. understands more incarceration DOES NOT equal more public safety.

"Tear-Gas Grenades and ‘Qualified Immunity’ A rule meant to shield officials from frivolous lawsuits now protects unconstitutional conduct." The outrageous and unconstitutional conduct by an Idaho SWAT team should not be able to hide qualified immunity.
