As recipients of federal funding, Wisconsin public schools are subject to the non-discrimination requirements of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin.

They are also subject to the non-discrimination requirements of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits sex discrimination—including sexual harassment—in education programs that receive federal funds.
