1. This contract would keep shielding officers from real accountability. Omaha’s City Council should follow the lead of the State of Nebraska, which limited Nebraska State Patrol disciplinary and investigatory procedures from collective bargaining.

2. It claims to make citizen complaints easier to file, but it does the opposite. The contract includes an unnecessary notary requirement, which looks to be a deliberate obstacle to stop people from filing complaints.

3. It lacks transparency. Complaints processed or considered by the Civilian Review Board are kept confidential and the Board meetings are explicitly not public meetings. A newly created “Reprimand Committee” is also closed off from the public.

This is an agreement that would cover the next five years of policing in Omaha. We must demand more to keep our community safe and hold police accountable. Tell your City Council Member how you expect them to lead.
