So why did police choose to arrest and jail 120 protesters? “I don't want to throw OPD under the bus, because they typically do the right thing,” said [the jail's director]. “I don't know what happened Saturday night.”
The rationale in Omaha Police's timeline doesn't hold up. There was no vandalism or violence from protesters. Were officers concerned more traffic cones would get knocked over? Does that warrant a mass arrest?
This is common sense. The response to protests about police brutality should not be more police brutality. Arrests carry lasting - sometimes lifelong - consequences.
