For too long, Nebraskans of color have been grossly overrepresented at every stage of our broken criminal justice system - from the traffic stop to our overcrowded prisons. 5/
We protest to call attention to the systemic racism throughout our communities that continues to kill and harm people of color every day. Racism is the root cause of this moment’s anger and turbulence. 6/
The continued militarized response to these protests from law enforcement is escalating the situation and putting people at risk. The right to protest is a fundamental right. 7/
We are reviewing all concerns of violated civil rights and civil liberties and are ready to hold those institutions accountable. We pledge to bring all of our resources to help bring peace, justice and systemic reforms. 8/
We have the opportunity to chart a new course in this decisive moment. We can make progress advancing racial justice, but it will take all of us and it will take persistent, focused action that is led by people of color. 9/
Look for more from us in the coming days and weeks as we work with partners and community leaders to lift up efforts to create catalytic change for our communities. 10/
