There will be people who say these are isolated incidents. They’re wrong.

Black Nebraskans are more likely to be pulled over by police than white people and they’re more likely to be killed by police.

Nebraska’s Black students are more than twice as likely as white students to be arrested at school.

Nebraska’s missing persons cases are disproportionately boys who are Black or Native. Cases of missing indigenous women and children span our state.

People of color are imprisoned at a grossly higher rate than white people in Nebraska's prisons.

Just last month, three Omaha police officers involved in the brutal arrest and death of Zachary Bearheels, a Native man, were reinstated.

Our meatpacking plant workers, many of whom are Black and Latinx, are facing the brunt of the COVID-19 outbreak because Gov. Ricketts and other officials will not mandate the safety protections they need and instead blame workers' culture and communities.

We are now one of just two states not reporting statewide COVID-19 cases by race or ethnicity.

Just last year, Nebraska neighborhoods and college campuses were targeted with racist fliers.

Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson, in our name and with our money, joined other states in an effort to end DACA.

Add to that racist comments and actions that never make headlines, both overt and implicit.

Racism is systemic. Dismantling it will take all of us. It will take intention and work. White people need to be actively antiracist, not just silent allies.

Our state motto is Equality before the Law. We can only reach that aspiration if we embrace racial justice and fight forward together.
