Dr Chin: It is important that the patient-doctor relationship is preserved without restrictions. Hospital employees should not have to worry that their job is at risk if they put patient care first.....

....delays in care or not being able to provide standard medical treatment can lead to catastrophic complications. This bill would help protect providers to treat patients first and allow the women of WA to receive comprehensive care wherever they live.

"I have seen firsthand that access to care for pregnancy complications is inequitable in our state. For some of my patients, all hospitals near to them have restrictions and we need to plan for ways to get to facilities a greater distance away....

.....Hospital policies should not interfere with provision of timely, necessary, potentially life saving care for our patients, and providers should not fear for their jobs for putting patient care first. Please support SSB 5140." - Dr. Christie Miles

This ensures pregnant patients get the care they need when they need it. This bill also protects health care providers, it ensures entities cannot discharge, demote, suspend or discipline health care providers from providing medically necessary care.

.....I cant imagine anyone here would disagree that when a patient’s health or life is at risk doctors and nurses must be allowed to treat their patients and provide care that is based in science and best practices.

This bill would not do much without a private right of action: the current remedies available have not prevented these delays in care from happening in our state. @ACLU_WA recently released a report on this where many stories of this occur during the past few years."

Let's be clear: Delays and denials of medically necessary care are clearly happening in our state. We urge lawmakers to support this crucial bill. Find the report mentioned above here:https://aclu-wa.org/docs/report-protecting-pregnant-patients …
