*spoiler warning*
The 1st amendment protects free speech & the separation of church/state—among many other things.
In Westeros, the High Septon sits on the small council by virtue of his position—though ‘virtue’ is not a phrase we would use when describing him.

The 2nd amendment protects the right to bear arms. POLL: In Westeros, would dragons and direwolves count?
#JusticeForGhost#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 3rd amendment protects people from being forced to have soldiers stay in their homes. Remember when Arya & the Hound visited a house & saw the devastation wrought by Lannister troops? That shows the importance of protecting houses from the military.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 4th amendment protects against unreasonable searches/seizures, & requires warrants before the police can search your house. In season 2, the Gold Cloaks search a brothel. Next time demand a warrant, Littlefinger!
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler warning* The 5th amendment is one of the most important: it requires due process when you are accused of a crime—including an impartial judge. Tyrion was accused of killing Joffrey, but then Joffrey’s grandfather is one of the judges? No way.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler warning* The 6th amendment is the right to a lawyer, even if you can’t afford one. Hey, Tyrion: that means a champion for trial by combat doesn’t count. (And this way, maybe Lord Oberyn would still be here.)
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 7th amendment is the right to a jury trial in civil cases. When Drogon eats a shepherd’s daughter in Slaver’s Bay, the shepherd petitions Dany for justice. But that’s just it: a jury should decide—not the Queen.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler warning* The 8th amendment protects against cruel/unusual punishment. Cersei paraded naked through the streets: unusual. Ned Stark executed for treason: the death penalty is cruel. (

*spoiler warning* ...And don’t even get us started on Ned’s false “confession”—a serious problem that happens all the time.
#GameofThrones#GoTrights 2/2Show this thread -
The 9th amendment states that the people give the government its power. In Westeros, it doesn’t come from the people, it comes from the Crown.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 10th amendment says some powers are for federal govt & some are for states. Since Dorne joined the 7 kingdoms later on, they got to keep equal “primogeniture,” meaning the eldest child is the inheritor – no matter if theyre a man or woman.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler* The 11th amendment says an individual can’t sue a state in fed court. So, if Arya wanted to sue the Freys after the atrocities committed at the Red Wedding, she wouldnt be able to do that in the Crown’s court. But it’s Arya, so she handled it her own way.
#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler* The 12th amendment changed how the president & vice president are elected. Before it, the VP used to be the runner up in the presidential race! Can you imagine if the runner up in the “game of thrones” became Vice Queen?
#DanyCersei2020#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 13th amendment ended slavery. Breaker of Chains. ‘Nuff said.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler* The 14th amendment gives everyone equal protection under the law. For centuries a woman couldn’t be a knight in Westeros. But change happens when a small group of people realize discrimination is wrong.
#SerBrienne#GoTrights#GameofThronesShow this thread -
*spoiler warning* The 15th amendment says your right to vote can’t be denied based on race. Even if Danaerys takes the throne, without the 15th amendment the Dothraki and Unsullied could be denied the right to vote.
#GoTRights#GameofThronesShow this thread -
The 16th amendment gives Congress the power collect income taxes. Taxes were paid in Westeros as part of the harvest—with Littlefinger heading up the Crown’s finances as the Master of Coin.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler warning* The 17th amendment made it so senators were elected rather than chosen by state legislatures. Imagine if the Lords of Winterfell were elected by the people. Do you think they could’ve avoided House Bolton and Battle of the Bastards?
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 18th amendment was the prohibition of alcohol. Post-battle parties for the winning side wouldn’t be quite the same.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler* The 19th amendment extended the right to vote to women. The suffragettes fought like hell to break gender norms—just like Arya does every episode.
#HeroofWinterfell#Whoruntheworld#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 20th amendment sets the inauguration for the president and vice president as January 20 at 12 p.m. There’s lots of coronations in Westeros, but we’re not sure they were all at noon. (We tried.)
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 21st amendment repealed prohibition. Please enjoy your Arbor Gold and Dornish Sour Reds responsibly. Tyrion, we’re looking at that pour you gave Podrick.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 22nd amendment sets term limits, so no president can be elected more than twice. There’s no term limits for the King (or Queen). But Hands? They don’t seem to last long.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 23rd amendment establishes that Washington D.C. gets to vote for president. Who speaks for the people of King’s Landing at the small council?
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
The 24th amendment says that you can’t deny people the right to vote for not paying taxes. Not that many people in Westeros get to vote, but, if they had elections, we’re pretty sure Cersei would have figured out a way to have illegal poll taxes.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler warning* The 25th amendment provides a robust mechanism for what happens if the president dies or becomes incapacitated while in office. If Westeros had this sorted out, maybe the War of the Five Kings could have been avoided.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler warning* The 26th amendment extends the right to vote to those who are 18 years old. Were you really going to tell Lyanna Mormont she’s too young?
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
*spoiler warning* The 27th amendment says Congress can’t change its pay in the course of one session. But lucky for Cersei, she had the Iron Bank to back her up.
#GameofThrones#GoTrightsShow this thread -
Thank you all for tuning in! We certainly hope you enjoy tonight’s finale. We also hope that through Westeros, we were able to show you a little more about the rights and liberties here in the U.S.!
