Except for Portland, which passed a ban on the government's use of face surveillance, the technology is unregulated in Maine.

Without democratic oversight and regulation, face surveillance poses a threat to everyone's civil rights and civil liberties. Specifically, it contributes to over-policing and surveillance of communities of color, especially Black communities
