Maine just became the 1st state to end the use of Indigenous mascots in schools after the Skowhegan School Board voted to retire the "Indians" mascot, says @ACLUMaine.
The Penobscot Nation led the effort to get the school district to drop the nickname, calling it racist.
It's the whole state. Skowhegan was the last district to make the change. Every other school in Maine with an indigenous mascot has phased it out.
