Past votes to keep the "Skowhegan Indians" mascot are not a reason to avoid change now. Past decisions/mistakes are not an excuse to no longer move forward. Instead, our past should be the driving force behind our push for change.

"What do we try to teach our young people? Respect others. Listen. Ask permission. And don't take things that don't belong to you." These same principles can be used to analyze the use of Indigenous mascots. It's time to choose mascots that represent respect.

11-year-old Skowhegan student: "Native American people have been asking for too long for us to stop using Native mascots." Our children are able to recognize the need to listen to Indigenous voices, so should we.
