    If calls a special session for new prisons w/o offering legislators the ability to do anything about why the old prisons failed, then NOTHING will change. Buildings alone will NOT address the DOJ concerns. We need real leaders who will.

    Gov. Ivey calls for special legislation session beginning September 27 to "tackle the state's prison infrastructure challenges." Infrastructure should include prison management, training, culture and rooting out corruption. But it will likely only include construction.

    .’s indication that the special session will focus on “infrastructure” aka NEW PRISONS and not include reform should trouble us all who read the DOJ reports and local reporters coverage of the overcrowding, abuse, and violence in our prisons.

    If calls a special session for new prisons w/o offering legislators the ability to do anything about why the old prisons failed, then NOTHING will change. Buildings alone will NOT address the DOJ concerns. We need real leaders who will.

    This is a great move forward. Now, Biden must extend clemency to all in this group and truly deliver on his promises. If he does not act, as many as 4,000 people would return to prison — being one of the largest acts of incarceration in the US to date.

    On a national average, a Black person is 3.64x more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than a white person, even though Black and white people use marijuana at similar rates. In Alabama, Black people are 4.1x more likely to be arrested.

    Still wondering what exactly REDISTRICTING means and what's the significance? It's the process of drawing lines of districts from which public officials are elected. When conducted fairly, it accurately reflects population changes and racial diversity.
