We’re still feeling the after-effects in 2021. Police brutality cuts hundreds of Black lives short every year. Hundreds of thousands of people are trapped in the mass incarceration system. COVID-19 has hit hardest in many Black communities.
In order to start the process of reconciliation, we must fully understand the impact of the institution of slavery and its legacy. It’s time our country lets a government-funded commission study the issue of reparations and make recommendations for reparations to Congress.
