BREAKING: We're asking the Supreme Court to defend the First Amendment right to protest. In a petition filed on behalf of @deray, we're urging the Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling that, if left standing, would gut civil rights era speech protections.pic.twitter.com/PS5XLlatFu

The Supreme Court has long recognized that peaceful protesters cannot be held liable for the unintended, unlawful actions of others. If the law said otherwise, there would have been no Civil Rights Movement.

This is the same argument that was used to convict (and execute) the Haymarket martyrs so not much has changed in the US since 1887....

In a perfect world, there would be no need for an organization like the ACLU. Sadly, decisions revoking protections like this show that there is a major need. #FirstAmendment #SupremeCourt #FreedomOfSpeech

@SenFeinstein @SenKamalaHarris An Amicus brief? Seems important for our shared history of civil rights.

It's amazing how they created language to continue to strip our rights. Language that truly only applies to people of color. Language that shows how much power words carry.
