I like that the dress code for girls is for the benefit of boys. That's how you know it's truly bananapants.

Most codes about how women should behave are for the benefit of men. I guess they're just teaching them the basic rules of society from a young age.

For many reasons, including the reality of physical privacy, vulnerability, weather, sports, body freedom, etc. girls should never be *required* to wear skirts.
-
I’m in my 60’s. We had to wear skirts until I was in 8th grade, when the girls staged a protest. I remember wearing ski pants & leggings to/from school and having to take them off in the coat closet. Stupid.
-
I remember that, too. In public school. Girls had to wear dresses/skirts but were allowed to wear shorts underneath them, only on gym class day when we did President Kennedy's chicken fat exercises.

A bit beside the point, but we don't need to promote chivalry - we need to promote politeness. A child should learn to hold the door for the people around him, rather than "for the girls."
-
Yes. And the girls should do the same. It’s distressing how many adult men and women don’t know (or care?) to hold a door open for someone. It all starts with what one learns as a child.

I am going assume this is a private school and having been to several this is not unusual. She can follow the rules for change schools.
-
The school accepts public funds. It can move into the 21st century or stop taking taxpayer money.
-
My mom was allowed to wear pants under her skirt in the winter. But she had to take them off in the coat room when she got to school. In 1958. It's not 1958 anymore. And this evidently isn't a great school because the people in charge don't understand what chivalry *was*.
-
I always thought chivalry was ensuring that Women are given equal treatment to men as well as allowing them to express themselves however they want.
-
Chivalry was a complex system of social customs used during the middle ages. It's now incorrectly used to mean "opening the door for a lady." I open the door for everyone, male, female, pants, dress. The word the school is looking for is misogyny.
-
Even the small bit of Chivalry that was about treating a woman well was only for upper class women. A knight could beat or rape a woman who wasn't a noble as was his right and chivalry did not come into it.

I got a wild idea. Let kids wear what they want and like who they want and play with all other children. And then let's teach them how to better themselves. Instead of repeating the same crap over and over again.
-
No more of this "You need to have the most stuff." It breaks people. It's bad.

@_Thinker_Bell__ Years ago I worked in a psychiatric facility that hired a nursing supervisor who changed the dress code so "all nurses must wear dresses or skirts." So my friend, Nurse Kevin, did.
-
I like Kevin.

How did it happen that women stole the “Dress” idea anyway? I’d love to be able to throw on a loose 1 piece garment and head out. They also wear pants, so they have it both ways. We men need to take back dresses or robes & simplify our day.
-
Only thing stopping you from ‘taking back’ your 1 piece garment that was ‘stolen’ is your own modesty and lack of courage. Go for it stud.
-
Not true. Only thing stopping me is my pathetic physique. Although, my recent inactivity is causing some boobage to emerge. So, I might be able to sport some cleavage.
-
I dunno, from your description it sounds like you could rock a dress better than most.
-
Your right. I’ll start with a Muu Muu, work my way into a Sun-Dress, and work toward a little black cocktail number. I’m tossing pants, shirts, ties, jackets, and belts today. Advice on socks and shoes with a Muu Muu?

Knee highs. Always knee highs.
