The constitutional amendment that guarantees citizenship to people born in the US — which Trump wants to do away with — was first passed to overrule a Supreme Court decision that Black people could not be citizens.https://www.aclu.org/blog/immigrants-rights/road-citizenship/no-mr-president-you-cant-change-constitution-executive-order …

If we use President Trump's wrong-headed, derogatory term for children of immigrant mothers (not US citizens), four of five of his children (from two of three wives), are so-called anchor babies, and no longer are US citizens. Neither is Ted Cruz.

According to the author of the 14th Amendment, everyone at the time of its passage was aware that it did not apply to foreigners.pic.twitter.com/0MU5F06vbJ

This quote was already argued and settled. The author meant foreign diplomats. Not foreign born individuals. Quoting out of context is disingenuous.https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2018-07-24/ignore-fake-arguments-over-birthright-citizenship …

This relies upon the argument that by simply being within our borders and having to follow us law, foreigners and aliens are there by subject to the jurisdiction of our laws. This is a very simplistic view. A foreigner cannot be drafted, cannot vote, cannot serve public office...

They cannot serve on a jury, as well as the whole host of other things they cannot do as they are not US citizens. They are still subject to the laws and jurisdiction of their home country... Therefore they are not truly under the jurisdiction of the United States.

And US citizens who are minors cannot do a lot of those things either. Reading comprehension is not your strong suit I see. The carve out for diplomats in the 14th Amendment is clear and as it was understood when it was written.

Yes, children born to American citizens can't serve on a jury or vote until they reach the age of majority... I wasn't talking about American children, I was talking about ADULT ILLEGAL ALIENS not being able to vote, etc... Apparently reading comprehension is not YOUR strong suit

        Replying to @GrandvilleShow @4RedBeard55 and

Children born to diplomats is an easy answer as diplomats have diplomatic immunity & are 100% not subject to American jurisdiction. The quote is "foreigners, aliens, foreign diplomats..." That's quite a mouthful just to say foreign diplomats can't have American citizen children.

1/ Who is the “who” that is being referenced in this portion of the quote: “who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the government of the United States.” Would it be the fore said, “persons born in the US who are foreigners, aliens”?

Oh no... Nope. Both of his parents were immigrants, from Germany and Scotland. Under his proposal, he himself would not have been a citizen. So yes, all his kids are, he is, but under his proposal neither he nor his family would carry USA passports

I know he doesn't care, but I'm surprised his supporters don't realize/care that he's supposed uphold the Constitution as required by his swearing-in for the office of President and to do otherwise opens up the possibility of impeachment.

Democrats solution: lure more illegal immigrants here by offering them sanctuary cities, free healthcare benefits, college tuition, even drivers licenses. Democrats want open borders. If you don’t believe me, just ask DNC’s Keith Ellisonpic.twitter.com/ky4oiiksvh
