Memo to the state of Georgia: The law belongs to the people, not the state. The government can't copyright it.https://www.aclu.org/blog/free-speech/court-tells-georgia-it-cant-charge-people-read-law …

So the people of Georgia are expected to abide by the laws, but the legislature wanted to charge a fee for the citizens to even know what those laws were? There is a state the desperately needs new leadership.

Every time I read something like this I wonder if these officials understand that we're a democracy. 1. How dare they charge people to access the laws of the state 2. How dare they sue an org for copyright infringement for posting laws. 3. Why would think they could do this??!

Their intent wouldn't be to sell access. It would be to prevent access. They want to write laws and keep them secret. Sounds insane, but it's right there in plain view.

👆 This right here. Truth is often hard to swallow, but this is getting jammed down our throat at this point.

I'm glad it is because otherwise, I would have argued that something like this was incapable of occurring in a country that's supposed to be the leader of the free world.

When the legislative or judicial chords are plucked it is, in fact, the People’s voice that is heard.” It SHOULD be the people's voice that's heard, but lately, we only hear the voices of the people with money.
