They should have to pay more than that. The only way to stop tolerance of this sickness is to make it really hurt. And hit the pensions of those who covered up his behavior.

I say “hit the pensions of those who covered it up” because, as of now, the people who are paying for it are the taxpayers of Michigan. The people responsible for letting these young ladies get hurt by that monster need to pay. And not just with their jobs but also financially.

I prefer institutional consequences because if Michigan doesn't "feel" the bite of this in the only place that matters to them - money - they'd have no incentive to prevent it anywhere else on campus. This also incentivizes other universities to do follow suit.

So the school pays a settlement, more than likely to be paid back by student via tuition hikes, so admins in charge of employment, oversight, etc don't have to pay a dime or do any time...sounds about right. This is America after all.

Same with police misconduct payouts to victims, except its taxpayer money. Cop gets a smack on the wrist, we pay the millions.

Unclear at this point, but it’s likely going to be both. As a public institution, taxpayers are going to be footing some, if not most, of the bill.
