It's not the source but the content, which Comey had already stated even under oath was "salacious" and unverified. Comey also knew that the very same salacious unverified content had been paid for by Hillary Clinton and the DNC in an effort to discredit her opponent.

If Steele is/was credible why A) did Comey testify that allegations were even in part "unverified"?, and B) with 20/20 hindsight insist, even now, that Steele was credible for FISA purposes *even though* the FBI terminated Steele for leaks to reporters? https://lawandcrime.com/legal-analysis/why-didnt-comey-charge-christopher-steele-for-lying-to-the-fbi/ … …
-
unverified means not yet verified - it does NOT mean untrue
-
Failure to disclose verification status to FISA is a bigger issue. Unvetted FISA apps are an old problem. In 2005 a judge, fed up with misleading FISA apps, proposed that FBI agents take an oath in her Court. Dir Meuller promised "reform" the WaPo reported http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/26/AR2007032602073_pf.html …
-
you changed the subject
-
In the U.S. innocence is presumed until guilt is proven. Until proper vetting occurs, the operating premise is not "true" but "undetermined". FISA Courts became controversial post-9/11 for potential abuse of power (loss of due process). This didn't help:https://www.cnn.com/2017/03/08/politics/fisa-court-explainer-trnd/ …
-
What is sufficient grounds for investigation is one thing, whereas what is sufficient evidence (meaning verified) for FISA app/Court purpose is another. For Comey to describe Steele as credible given Steele's termination as an FBI source *prior to his testimony/book* is a stretch
-
A) You don't find Comey credible so why do you care who he finds credible? B) Steele was fired as source for leaking to the press - which he did b/c he lost faith that Comey's FBI was investigating C) Pro Trump FBI leaked to press prior to election like crazy
-
Justice has become highly selective. (The law blog post says Steele, too, opened himself to FBI prosecution.) Too many accusations have been flying for nearly two years and *nobody* has come out the better for the drama & risk incurred to their own reputations/careers. It's sad.
