As a resident of the PDX area and a humanitarian, I don't understand why it appears that all the officers shot at a man armed with a knife and didn't seem aggressive. If the officers felt gunfire was necessary, why not one shot into his arm or leg? Shoot to kill? No.
-
Well because aiming for an arm or leg is difficult. They aim for center mass, the largest target, and not shooting to kill but rather stop the threat. Also a man with a knife will beat anyone within ~25 feet (not sure on the actual statistic) without their gun drawn.

Don’t steal cars and threaten random homeless people with knives. That simple.

If you steal a car, shouldn't you get run over?

What happened to the good old days when police let em get away and do real police work to track em down later when it's safer for everyone?
-
Because he is violent, because he car jacked with a knife. Seriously your tweet is assanign . So they let him go and he kills someone. Then you'd be on the police for letting him go. You have no clue what he is capable of and neither do the police. Actions have consequences
-
Lots of counties employ this method and their police and citizens all kill less people

@PortlandPolice are soooooo screwed.... I hope the shooter gets fired and arrested for murder. Because that’s exactly what he committed -
No I don't think you're right. This violent criminal with a knife carjacked someone, has the knife out, threatens people with it. No, pretty sure the police will be just fine. Bet you'd think different if you were the one car jacked, if you were one of those being threatened
-
Being a victim of a car jacking is far different than being 30’ from someone backed up against the wall, with a dividing wall between the shooter and a confused homeless man.
-
And it a split second anything can happen. In split second he could attack, throw the knife. He could have a gun since he already has shown he is a violent person. Car jacking someone with a knife. No that person has nothing but bad intentions. They gave him every chance.
-
No....they didn’t. With a dozen officers there, it’s CLEAR in the video, he DID NOT HAVE A GUN as the officer claimed he did.
