The sad thing is we have so many pedestrian AND highway bridges that are falling apart, yet we are trying to focus on building a wall on our border. How about we fund our roadways and bridges first and make sure we are all safe there.

This one was totally handled by local politics.... under construction until early next year.

Was this thing still under construction?
-
Not due to open until "early next year". I'd like to see the contractor licenses, funding and kickbacks associated with this nightmare.

Someone’s definitely fired.
-
I hope so. This will be traced back to a bad decision, short cut or cost savings to increase profit action. I just hope that person is held accountable.

Turns out it was one of Obama's genius "shovel ready" programs. This is why you should never let a community organizer come up with construction projects.https://reason.com/blog/2018/03/15/collapsed-fiu-bridge-was-funded-by-feder …

This Is Very Sad, God Bless Em. I Had A Grade School Teacher Almost Loose Her Life From Same Kind Of Accident. I Try To Avoid Being Stopped In Traffic Under Bridges, Still To This Day Gives Me Bad Anxiety.
-
I do the very same. I feel like it is a jimx or bad luck thing.. but this is the visual of what could happen. Allows nervous when stuck under one. Heart hurts for families of those involved.

I Know It's A Ton Of Weight Dropped Right On Top Of You, Really Nothing You Can Do...

Yes!& it My Head it is something I feel I have 95% Chance 2 avoid. I know I can’t avoid going under. But I can all but avoid sitting under one while light is red. I remember watching SF multi level HW collapse.I don’t think I could ever drive under a layer -it’s a phobia I guess.

The contractors, engineers & inspectors should be held responsible. This pedestrian bridge was only in service ONE WEEK!
-
They said it was only open to construction workers, not complete until early next year. Crap, conflicting reports already?
-
FIU is on spring break this week so no students/pedestrians were on it.
-
There was a student on the bridge, but not the volume as if the school had been opened. This is what happens when you let a community organizer come up with construction programs.https://reason.com/blog/2018/03/15/collapsed-fiu-bridge-was-funded-by-feder …
